About Me
what I do
My Story
I have been diagnosed with non “classic” PCOS prior to going through difficulties conceiving my first child. I’d gone off the pill to try to conceive but nothing was happening for 4 years!
I was on the pill for contraception. When my doctor prescribed a birth control pill she assured me that staying on the pill long term would be perfectly fine and that when I was ready to have a baby, I would be able to transition off the pill without any hiccups in my fertility or my period.
This is where my rollercoaster ride started! Bunch of signs and symptoms arise after discontinuing birth control pills. I experienced what’s known as a post- pill amenorrhea: my period was missing for 6 month, my hair was shedding everywhere, I had bald patches on my scalp. Moreover, I was bloated and constipated, very tired and my mood was so unstable and so uncontrollable. I had no idea what was happening in my body.
I was going back and forth to the doctors. They told me I am experiencing post- birth control syndrome, but that’s normal and everything will be ok. They told me I am healthy and nothing wrong with me. Meanwhile I was physically and mentally drained.
So I took my health into my own hands. Seeking out what was at the root cause of all my symptoms, I found a Naturopathic Doctor who helped me understand what was going on, what was to blame and how to heal holistically.
It was this experience that led me to study nutrition at the College of Naturopathic Medicine. Now I am helping other women who are struggling with PCOS and other hormonal imbalances.
My Approach
One of my philosophies behind hormone health is to only write about things that have scientific evidence and backing.
I adopted a whole-foods, mostly plant based lifestyle to help me recover from my severe hormonal imbalance caused by my contraception. My blog is focused on lots of healthy vegan and refined sugar – free desserts because they were a huge part of my recovery. I am hoping that I can inspire others to eat their way to hormone balance and I hope my health articles can shed light on a lot of important topics related to hormone health.
